LIVABLE LEARNING - Preparing the Home and the Heart
Teacher Preparation

Maria Montessori stressed that a teacher must be
morally and spiritually prepared
in order to effectively direct the education of a child.

At the Livable Learning egroup I offer reflections on the moral and spiritual formation of the Teacher. We will study by way of three cycles of formation:

Cycle One:  Preparing the Heart and the Home

Cycle Two:  Directing the Mind and the Materials

Cycle Three:  Following the Child and the Church

Cycle One resources include "How to Bring Simplicity and Spirituality into your Daily Living" by John Michael Talbot for spiritual direction, and "From Creative Chaos to Livable Learning" authored by me, for moral preparation.

Spiritual Preparation

According to Montessori we must tear out our most deeply rooted defects, especially those that would hinder our relations with our children. It is only in true humility that we can look at ourselves with our honorable strengths and as well as our painful weaknesses. To spiritually prepare ourselves we must do as the saints did and read books that will internally move us to a more virtuous way of life. Simplicity is one of our greatest tools on the road to humility and holiness. Father Pavone once said that "the devil does not tempt good people to do bad things, rather he tempts good people to do so many good things that they are distracted." What in your life is distracting you from your vocation in life? How do you discern your gifts and what is your calling? The Called and Gifted workshop is an excellent opportunity to help you discern your charisms.

Moral Preparation

To morally prepare ourselves we have to examine our practical day to day living and to recognize any bad habits we have given into, and to identify whatever lies we have absorbed through our environment. I highly recommend programs such such as LIFE Inc and Dave Ramsey's Finanical Peace University, for the support of financial mentorship and for the resources to dig down to the roots of one's behavior.

From Creative Chaos to Livable Learning ebook

"The simplicity of your book is genius. Everything seems to be broken down very simply, yet completely, which is a plus for homeschooling moms (who live in chaos). I have been making Holy Hours with the kids and this is a great book for me to focus on myself for a change. You know, the MM (Montessori Method) teacher must grow." ~ Mary/Moderator - Playschool6
